I am a high school science teacher at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC. I am teaching Honors/MYP Physics as well as IB2 and IB 3 Physics. I taught for 23 years in the Hopewell Area School District in western Pennsylvania and 2.5 years at Pahrump Valley High School in Pahrump, NV. My family moved to SC in January 2011 at which time I came to MPHS. This is my 27th year of teaching.
I am a graduate of Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. When people hear that I am an engineer by degree I am always asked, "Why are you teaching?" Well, the year I graduated, not one of my fellow Chemical Engineers got engineering jobs. Many companies had hiring freezes at the time so I was forced to reexamine my career aspirations. I found that I could return to school and pick up the required education classes and become a science teacher. So, I spent some time at Slippery Rock University and got my teaching certificates in Physics and Chemistry. I really enjoy the classroom part of teaching.
I am married and have two daughters.
Our family has a wonderful
dog that keeps us company.
I enjoy reading novels by the likes of David Baldaci, J.K. Rowling, Clive Cussler, Jack Higgins, etc. If the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates, are playing I am normally listening to them via internet radio. I have become a Nascar fan with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson as my favorite drivers.
I like to work on my computer and I thrive on bright sunshine. Of course, in the Pittsburgh area, it seems that sunshine was normally an imagined event - hence, one of the reasons we moved to Nevada. Growing tomatoes and summer squash are a favorite past-time. Cooking new dishes with them is also enjoyable and good therapy for me.
I am a Star Trek fan. I have enjoyed each of the four STAR TREK shows and since they have all run their course I am no longer able to go where no man has gone before.
